Prism The Psyne Series Book 2 eBook Jasmine Angell

At the end of Luminous, the first book in the Psyne series, I was more than reluctant to leave the world of mermaids the author so masterfully created and couldn't wait to get my hands on the next book to find out what was going to happen to the characters I became so attached to. The wait between the books was worth it and I'm happy to say that Prism didn't disappoint at all and that I, once again, read well into the morning hours because I just couldn't put it down.

The discovery the main character made when she entered her eternal prison caught me by surprise and set the book off to follow many twists and turns as the implications of what the Psyne council decided to keep hidden became clear. Harsh realities have to be faced, old beliefs questioned and the importance of love and family re-examined. The Psyne has been through much and the battle between their coldblooded mermaid natures and their emotional and vulnerable human sides is beautifully depicted. The struggle between good and evil continues but that grey area in between became cliffhangers several times in the book.

Whereas I loved Luminous and getting to know the Psyne, Prism takes it to a whole other level and I'm now thoroughly addicted. Once again I can't wait for the next book and am itching with impatience to get my hands on it. I just have to know what happens next! Jasmine Angell is a very special writer and her ability to weave a compelling story and taking it to the next level is very well done. I will be following her career and can't help but insists that she write more and faster to feed my addiction ...

Prism The Psyne Series Book 2 eBook Jasmine Angell Reviews

Politics are never a good thing. Make them mermaid politics, and things just got a whole lot more dangerous. This is a faster paced novel than the first but just as good. The questions that the reader was left with by Luminous are answered and the society of the Psyne is changed forever. Nothing will ever be the same in the mermaid world again. And it will have rippling effects throughout the galaxy.
I have fallen in love with the Psyne series. The 2nd book (Prism) was great, though so far the first book (Luminous) is still my favorite. There's a lot to love about this book but there are some down sides as well.

PROS The characters are absolutely amazing. We still get all our favorite characters from the first book plus some awesome new characters to fall in love with. Linnaeus and Traxis are my 2 favorite new characters. Linnaeus is so sweet and innocent and her fascination with the world around her reminds me of a kid experiencing Disney World for the first time. Traxis is really laid back, relaxed, and totally a kick butt character. His personality is a lot like Emmett from Twilight and I absolutely loved him. I can't wait to see more of him in the 3rd book. Another pro is that this book does a good job of summarizing and reminding the reader of the major plot points that took place in the first book without over doing it and making it seem like you're reading the first book all over again. One thing that I love about this series is all the twists/reveals. There's so much more that you learn in this book about the world and the history of the psyne race and I loved learning about it and finding out all the secrets. The 2nd book definitely read like a dystopian type of book so I would consider this to be a mermaid dystopian book. The politics in this one...so good! Another good thing, no major cliffhangers!

CONS Every chapter switches back and forth between different characters. While I like seeing what's going on with all of the characters, it did kind of annoy me switching every chapter because I get really interested in one character's storyline then it switches. I would at least like to see one character's perspective for a couple of chapters before switching to another. I wanted to see Nessa more in this book. She is super important to the story/plot and even though they talk about her all throughout the book we don't get many scenes with her and I wanted more. Also the author does a great job at showing the character's emotions but at times there'll be a scene where the characters emotions are shown really well but then in the very next chapter one of the characters is reflecting back on the scene that just happened and they tell us what they were thinking and feeling, even though we just saw it in the previous chapter. This doesn't happen too much in the book but at times like this the book can feel a bit repetitive. I'm ok with a character reflecting back on a scene that just happened as long as it gives me more depth and insight and I can maybe learn something about the character that I didn't get from the scene before. One thing I loved about the first book is how every time the good guys start to get the upper hand or start to make an escape the bad guys end up anticipating their moves and stopping them. It made the book less predictable because you never knew who would end up getting the upper hand in the end and who would win. I wish the 2nd book was more like that. It was a little bit but the bad guys didn't get the upper hand as much as they did in the first book. Also, the ending was a little bit confusing, particularly with one character but I'm sure it will be explained more in the 3rd book.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend this series.
Must read.
Jasmine Angell is a gifted storyteller, and opening the pages of "Prism" was like escaping into a magical world. If you loved "Luminous," you will be just as captivated by this 2nd installment in the Psyne Series...and anxious for more.
I like these mermaid stories. It's a fun world to dive into, and it's clear the author enjoyed writing it as much as she hopes the reader will enjoy reading it. I did think there were parts that needed to be edited a bit, but for the most part I enjoyed it.
Prism is the second installment in the Psyne series. Overall, a good read. It directly follows the events of Luminous and brings the loose ends of that story to a close. I thought it wrapped everything up nicely and in a satisfying manner.

On the negative side, I feel like it was a bit repetitive. It probably doesn’t help that I read the two books back-to-back, but I felt there was a bit too much recapping that slowed things down. However, because of that, it might be possible to read it as a standalone novel, so that might be a good thing for some.

Still, though, I’m glad to have read it, and I’m looking forward to the next installment. Because I feel like everything was wrapped up nicely, I’m not sure what the next book will bring, but I’m looking forward to finding out.
